A 2009 film retrospective according to Tim:
Best Line
"I was hiding under your porch because I love you."
Worst Moment from Zack Snyder's Watchmen:
The soundtrack played that sacred chord,
Nite Owl brought the girl on board,
And gave a look that said "I’m gonna do ya".
What happened then was really weird,
They made out in their fetish gear,
And fucked to Leonard Cohen’s "Hallelujah".
Hallelujah, hallelujah
Hallelujah, halle-lu-uu-jah.
I love Tim.

Another little difference between America and Australia is what they put in their burgers.
The american 'deluxe' version would be called 'The Works', and typically contains lettuce, pickle, tomato, onion, meat, extra meat, cheese, bacon, perhaps guacamole.
The australian is called 'The Lot', and you can find the meat cheese and lettuce of course, but also egg, bacon, and beet root! And it's jolly good, mate :)
Personally I can't stand the sweet pickles they use here, especially when comparing them to our french 'cornichons', but beet root is a very nice (albeit stain-prone) addition.

Aside from a few pictures I haven't really been saying much since I arrived in Australia, nearly a month ago. It's not that i have nothing to say, actually lots of thoughts come up regularly that could make a one-line post, a funny image, or a deep and thoughtful monologue about cultural differences or somesuch. I guess I'm just lazy!
Anyways, one of the funny things that keep surprising me day after day here, is how australians find the english words just too complicated to bother, and like to replace it officially with a cutesy kid version. Think of it as 'thru' in American, but everywhere.
So here it is, a small lexicon to illustrate, see if you can guess them:
Ozzy
Brekky
Kindy
Bikky
Brissy
Sydney
Cooly
Barbie
Bluey
Firy
Poky
Uey
Stubby
Mosy
---
australian (of course)
breakfast
kindergarten (one of the 3 remaining german words of the english voc gets the axe... i suppose schadenfreude is not looking too hot either)
biscuit
Brisbane and Coolangatta. Sydney is built-in! And Melbourne is such a classy old lady no-one would think of diminishing her.
barbecue... they're not nearly as enamoured with acronyms as americans, so BBQ wouldn't cut it.
bluebottle jellyfish (small, almost invisible, lethal... so cute they need a 'y')
fireman
slot machine (i don't really get that one either, they're not at all related to poker)
U-turn... yep, U-turn was too long and confusing to be kept around.
beer bottle (used mostly in 'stubby holder')
mosquito (minuscule, relentless, immune to most repellents and leaving a mark bigger than them)
"I had a bikky for brekky on my way from Brissy to the kindy in Cooly, but I had to make a Uey at the firies' station to stop by the pokies" Easy peasy!

Woods crash did $3200 damage to hydrant, tree
(L'accident de Tiger Woods cause pour 3200$ de dommages à une borne incendie et à un arbre)Etonnant, non?
